HP's 'Everybody On' Grammys Ad Appeals to Nobody

During last night's Grammys broadcast, HP ran a comprehensively awful commercial for its TouchPad, combining a track from Lou Reed with a script straight from 'Everyone Poops.'

The idea behind the ad is simple: with the TouchPad, you can do a lot of different things. It's a message that the company probably could've portrayed in a million ways. For some reason, though, HP decided to build the spot around a classic song about heroin and crossdressing. Scored to the familiar bassline of 'Walk on the Wild Side,' the ad features a montage of people using the TouchPad in various ways, while a voice belonging to neither Lou Reed nor Q-Tip describes what "everybody" is doing: "Everybody Skype, everybody post," everybody this, everybody that. It's painful, it's awkward, it's not self-aware in the slightest, and, not surprisingly, "everybody" hates it.
